  • WELCOME!

I am thrilled you are interested in Mary Buttolph Photography to document your wedding and I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you. Months, even years, of planning disappear in an instant as the guests leave. My job is to document the entire experience exactly as it happened through creative and stunning images. I look forward to exceeding your expectations with my photography, client service, and one-of-a-kind products.

I specialize in documenting weddings in Skaneateles, New York but I also love destination weddings. My signature, in addition to beautiful images, is personalized service. I insist on shooting complementary engagement portraits to give us a chance to get to know each other prior to the big day and after the wedding is over I offer design services to create unique items from your wedding photography. When you hire Mary Buttolph Photography no detail will be overlooked and no questions will go unanswered.

I grew up in Virginia and proudly attended Virginia Tech where I earned a degree in Fisheries Science. I started my professional career as a Fisheries Biologist for the Forest Service in the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest. Although I enjoyed my vagabond lifestyle studying wild salmon and trout I decided to return to school to study my first love, photography. I earned a degree from RIT and a Master's degree in Multimedia, Photography, and Design at The Newhouse School at Syracuse University.

My resume includes freelancing for several organizations including the New York Times, being named a Carnegie/Knight fellow, and an adjunct professorial position at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, where I taught multimedia storytelling. I live in Skaneateles with my marvelous husband, Lee, and I am most proud of our baby girl, Charlotte Anne.

Sanibel Revisited

Charlotte and I were lucky enough to return to Sanibel to hang out with my family for most of April. It was a wonderful shot of summer; I drank in the sun, the bath-temp waters, the soul-soothing warm breezes, and a few dozen margaritas! There is so much life on the island–everywhere you look there are exotic plants and animals that are just begging for an impromptu portrait session. Here are a few of my favorite moments and memories from another wonderful trip.
